I have spent the last 20 years taking complex things, and making them simple.
This all began when I started trying to help people make smarter decisions with their money. I'd do my best to explain a concept only to get blank stares in return. One day, in an act of desperation I grabbed a nearby Sharpie and a piece of paper and sketched out the concept. Suddenly everything changed. People understood, and I was hooked on seeing that happen.
Turns out, this way of simplifying complex ideas in this basic and pragmatic way resonated with a lot of people. These sketches have become a shortcut into an idea, freely interpreted to suit different meanings, and possibly even a souvenir of how you navigated through a particular experience.
It’s been 8 years now, and it seems these ‘shortcuts and souvenirs’ Sketches have started a lot of conversations.. taking up a weekly slot in the New York Times and all other major international newspapers, along with illustrating books, and most unexpectedly for me, becoming an international solo exhibitor.. now that’s a story for another time…
